Hey Beege, how old are you now?
As of this writing (September, 2007) I am 20 years
old. My birthday is March 16th. My dad, who helps
me with my site, told me not to tell you his age
:-)
What is your real name and why do they call you Beege?
My real name is Bruce Pinchbeck, Jr. but my mom, dad and sister have called me Beege (from B.J. which stands for Bruce Jr.) since I was a baby.
Are you going to college now?
Yes. I am attending Drexel University in Philadelphia,
PA. I am majoring in Film and Video Production.
Attending Drexel and living in Philadelphia has
been really a great experience.
How did you get started with your site?
Our site started in April 1996 kind of by accident. My dad and I were surfing the internet and found a site that had a web editor that we could download and try for 30 days. We downloaded the program and found out that it was not very difficult to make a webpage. We also thought that it would be cool to make a homework helper site that others could use so they would not have to surf all over the WWW to find real good educational links. We had our site up and running within two days. It has grown a lot and has become quite popular over the last two years thanks to all of our fans.
Did you do any traveling when you
were involved with Discovery.com?
I did some traveling for Discovery.com. Actually, traveling was the
most exciting part of my work. One summer I went to Chicago to do
a promo shoot for Discovery with the "Internet Coach" that was shown
in schools around the country. In January 2001 dad and I went to
Orlando with Discovery to the FETC conference...this is a big conference
for teachers. It was really a lot of fun...I got to meet many teachers
and even signed some autographs. Working with Discovery was a fun
experience.
Do you ever do personal appearances or give speeches about your site?
Yes, I have given speeches and have done some appearances.
I taught week-long Junior WebMaster, film and
video, and robotics courses at Penn State University
(Beaver Campus) during the past six summers. I
will be teaching the course at Penn State again
this year.
How did you find all of these cool links for your page?
Dad and I have spent many (and I mean MANY) hours on the Internet looking for good educational links. As our site has become busier with more visitors, many of our fans have suggested real good links.
What is your favorite search engine?
Dad and I almost always use Google when we are looking
for information on the WWW. Ninety-nine percent
of the time we find what we want there. When anyone
writes to us and asks for information on a specific
subject, we usually go to Google.com to find the
information they are requesting. We have been
using Google since it started.
How long have you been using a computer?
I can't remember exactly when I began using a computer but I'm told I started when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I am pretty good with computers
now and sometimes I show my dad new things they can do with the computer.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have a sister who graduated from Penn State University in May, 2000. She majored in Advertising and Spanish. Now she is working in central Pennsylvania doing web design and graphics editing. She is definitely a cool sister.
Beege, would you be my penpal?
I get many requests to be a penpal and because of
all of the time that I have to spend on my own
school work plus on our site, I unfortunately do
not have the time to be penpals with anyone. We
get about 20 to 40 e-mail messages a day during
the school year. We try to answer everyone who
writes to us.
How can I start up my own homepage?
It is not really difficult to start your own homepage. One thing to keep in mind though, is you should try to keep it simple. Most people do not like clicking on sites that have too many graphics -- especially if the graphics are on the first page. Content is really important too. If you want people to visit your site, make sure that your content is really good. If you want to know more about HTML editing and how to start up your own site, go to our Computers and the Internet section.
